Curious about the origins of Chickenshed?

Ever wondered how and why we started…in a literal chicken shed? Join us as we celebrate Chickenshed’s 50th anniversary with The Fabric of Chickenshed - a fascinating pop-up display tracing the colourful threads of our pioneering history from 1974 to 1994.

The display showcases the rich stories, people, and practices that have shaped and evolved our inclusive methodology - an ethos that continues to blossom within and beyond our walls. It also highlights Chickenshed’s journey to finding a home in Enfield, with incredible support from Enfield Council.

This immersive, nostalgic experience features previously unseen video footage, photographs, articles, costumes, and more! Expect highlights from our beloved patrons, including Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dame Judi Dench, as well as the magic of our 1990 Anansi performance at The Royal Albert Hall, which brought together over a thousand children from all London boroughs.

Beginning as an exhibition at Chickenshed, this pop-up display is currently touring venues in Enfield. Designed and curated by our talented young members - alongside interior designer Angela Simpson and textile artist Graham Hollick, who both experienced Chickenshed during its formative years - it promises to be a unique and enlightening celebration of our history.

Don’t miss your chance to dive into the vibrant tapestry of our past…The Fabric of Chickenshed!
